The electric vehicle market in India is developing at a pace it has never been before and 2025 is one of the biggest milestones of a homegrown automaker of India, Mahindra & Mahindra. Mahindra is now in a new era of electrification with the grand introduction of its XEV 9e and BE 6e with the world-class technology and futuristic design under its two different EV brand XEV and BE.
Revealed simultaneously in November 2024, these SUVs do not merely symbolize new vehicles; they are the message by Mahindra that Indian electric mobility can be high-end, performance-oriented and very fashionable.
Big Launch: Two EVs, One Platform, One Vision
On 26 November 2024, Mahindra announced officially the XEV 9e and BE 6e, which is based on its own all-new INGLO platform, one of the global electric architectures designed to serve a broad portfolio of future EVs. This open source platform can be used with a variety of body styles, battery packs, and drive configurations – which makes it among the most adaptable EV systems launched by an Indian company.
Both SUVs were being open-booked in February 2025 and delivered in stages starting in March 2025, with the variants at the top being delivered first. It is the first instance of Mahindra launching two electric SUVs together- one is under its XEV sub-brand and the other is BE (Born Electric), each aimed at a different buyer mentality.
XEV 9e & BE 6e Design Language
Mahindra has strategically crafted the two SUVs in order to be different although they have a common futuristic DNA.
Mahindra XEV 9e
The XEV 9e is more of a luxury, city crossover – a coupe-like SUV that has flowing aerodynamics and a powerful front stance. It has skimmed LED DRLs, full-width light bars, striking wheel arches, and a sloping roofline, which provides it with a technology-focused appearance. The XEV 9e is a sophisticated vehicle, which targets urban enthusiasts who are eager to have a car with a nice look and a high-performance level.
Mahindra BE 6e
BE 6e on the other hand adopts a more aggressive and daring SUV identity. Its sharp edges, large body, and C-shaped signature of the DRL make it out. BE 6e captures the spirit of adventure, performance, which Mahindra took to the electric car as an electric SUV, in other words, a car that is expected to look as adventurous as it drives.
Both of them are based on LED lighting, aerodynamic alloy wheels, and flush door handles, but the difference in the appearance is indicative of the intelligent two-brand design philosophy by Mahindra, BE boldness, XEV experience.
Interior and Features
Get in any of the two SUVs and the leap in interior innovation by Mahindra becomes apparent. Both of them are built on the principles of digital first, driver centric cabins, which combine luxury and easy-to-use technology.

The new battery thermal management system at Mahindra will guarantee maximum efficiency of its car in the varying climatic conditions in India, which is one of the biggest problems of many EVs.
Price and Variants in India (2025)
Mahindra has adopted a cost reduction strategy to beat the international competitors at their own price without varying features.
| Model | Starting Price (Ex-Showroom) | Top Variant |
| BE 6e | ₹18.90 lakh | ₹24.50 lakh |
| XEV 9e | ₹21.90 lakh | ₹27.50 lakh |
Top trims as the Pack Two variations were introduced in mid-2025, and other trims are being introduced slowly state-by-state.
Competition Check
Mahindra XEV 9e competes against Hyundai Creta EV, MG ZS EV, and Tata Harrier EV and establishes itself as a feature-filled urban electric SUV and a balance of comfort and power.
Mahindra BE 6e competes with BYD Atto 3, Tata Curvv EV, and MG Marvel R (in the future), which is oriented on the design and sportive performance.
The two models provide Mahindra with a solid presence in the mid-premium EV SUV a segment where Indian carmakers are competing to dominate.
The New Electric Strategy BE vs XEV
The dual-brand EV strategy is the most significant asset of Mahindra.
- BE (Born Electric): Bold, emotional, performance-oriented designs that are targeted at the younger adventure buyers.
- XEV (Experience Electric Vehicle): is technology-oriented, refined and modern luxury targeting urban customers.
They both have the INGLO platform, battery technology, and safety architecture, however, their brand personalities attract different types of buyers. Such intelligent segmentation would enable Mahindra to reach more people in India with EV.
Why These Launches Matter?
Mahindra has been known over the years by tough ICE SUV models such as the Scorpio, Thar, and XUV series. However with the BE 6e and the XEV 9e, the firm is making a reinvention of itself as an EV innovator in the world. These vehicles demonstrate the optimism of Mahindra in the development of the EV infrastructure in India and it is willing to compete with other global leaders.
Besides, the cars are designed, developed, and tested in India, to suit our climate, roads, and energy system, which is more convenient and dependable than most foreign EVs.
Final Verdict
The Mahindra XEV 9e and BE 6e are being launched with more than a simple product release, it is an Indian electric mobility turning point. Mahindra has ensured that EVs can be aspirational but affordable through a futuristic design, performance, and intelligent pricing.
And take it or leave it with the grace of the XEV 9e or the manliness of BE 6e, both are a daring step towards a smarter greener automotive future, manufactured in India, to the global community.
